Do you ever find it difficult to understand the Bible? Sometimes it seems as if the Bible is a puzzle including thousand of pieces and understanding how it all fits together can seem impossible. This is one reason why good Bible teaching in local churches, helpful books, and discussion with friends is necessary.
Recently I received a copy of James Montgomery Boice’s book titled Come to the Water. On the January 8 devotional he writes:
“First, when the Lord shut Noah and his family up in the ark, they were totally secure and thereby became an illustration for us of the believer’s perfect security in Jesus Christ. The rains would come The floods would rage. But nothing would touch these who had been sealed in the ark by Jehovah. The Lord does not place the safety of his people in others’ hands. He himself throws the lock.”
I must confess that I don’t think I ever thought of connecting the ark that Noah was on with his family with security in Christ. However, Boice seems to put this piece of the puzzle together. Just as Noah’s family was secure in the ark, now God’s children are secure in Christ. Let’s rejoice in this security and continue to study the Bible in a way that we can start piecing this great puzzle together!
